What topics can I discuss with an adviser?
Fellowships advisers offer one-on-one advising on:
- Yale fellowships offered through Fellowship Programs, including the Richard U. Light Fellowship
- External (non-Yale) fellowships with competitions run through our office, and any fellowship for postgraduate study in the UK
- If your proposal seems to be a good fit for one of the fellowships listed above, whom to ask for letters, draft proposals and essays, etc.
What if I just want to know what my fellowship options are?
- Explore the online resources here. (The Yale Student Grants Database is searchable by class year)
- Come to a Fellowship Programs information session, where we'll outline options, questions to ask, and resources available. These are seasonal: sessions for summer fellowships happen in the fall, before early spring deadlines, and most sessions for postgraduate fellowships happen in the spring, before late summer and fall deadlines. (View our calendar.)
What if I have questions about a Yale fellowship not offered through Fellowship Programs?
- If a fellowship is offered by another campus office, someone there will be better able to answer your questions. Yale Student Grants Database (click the grant title for full details, and scroll down). Contact details for every fellowship are listed in the
- Advice and resources to apply for other external awards can be found here.
- We recommend revieiwng the Fellowship Programs' online advice about planning and applying for fellowships, or attending a workshop. Additionally, if you need draft proposal advice, remember that the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning offers many writing resources to current students, and faculty in the relevant field will have the best advice about research proposals (especially for senior essays and graduate school).
