External Awards (non-Yale Fellowships)

American Institute of Indian Studies Fellowships

For more than 60 years, the American Institute of Indian Studies has provided funding to pre- and post-doctoral scholars and artists in pursuit of knowledge about India.

• Junior Fellowships are for graduate students conducting research for their doctoral dissertations in India.
• Senior Long- and Short-term Fellowships are for those holding the PhD degree.
• Performing and Creative Arts Fellowships are available to accomplished practitioners of the arts to conduct their projects in India.

Amgen Scholars Program

Offers funded summer science and biotech research experience at host institutions across the US and in Japan. Applicants for the US programs must be US citizens or permanent residents and currently enrolled sophomores, juniors, or December grads. Applicants for the Japanese programs are not required to be US citizens.
Application deadline typically in early February.

Associated Board International Scholarships for Music

Support one or two years of postgraduate study of performance, conducting, or composition at one of the Royal Schools of Music. Eligible are citizens of countries outside the EU. Apply to the degree course of choice for consideration for these scholarships. The international scholarship provides full payment of tuition fees for the duration of the course and a grant of £5,000 towards living costs (usually paid in termly instalments).

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

Supports one or two years of undergraduate study in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and natural sciences.
Eligible are college sophomores or juniors who are US citizens, permanent residents, and nationals intending to pursue research careers in STEM fields. Campus application deadline typically in November.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Supports up to one year of study abroad in any discipline. Eligible are US citizens and nationals who are Pell Grant recipients.
Application deadlines are typically in early October for spring-term study abroad, and in early March for study abroad during the summer and following academic year. *Yale College students should seek advice about appropriate study abroad programs from Yale's Study Abroad office, although the Fellowships office is happy to offer advice on Gilman Scholarship applications.

Cambridge Commonwealth, European and Overseas Trust Scholarships

Support postgraduate degree study at the University of Cambridge. Eligible are applicants for graduate study at Cambridge. Apply at the same time as for the Gates Cambridge, or by the appropriate deadline at the beginning of December or January, depending on citizenship; see website for details.

All scholarships are available only for study at the University of Cambridge, and require that you apply to the University via the normal online application form, and most scholarships require that you apply by the relevant deadline.

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship

Up to $37,000 toward master’s degrees leading to careers in the US Department of State Foreign Service. You may apply during the senior year of your undergraduate program or any time after you graduate, as long as you plan to start graduate school in the fall of the year for which you are applying. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. *If Pursuing a Rangel Fellowship, you should also apply for a Pickering Fellowship.
Application deadline typically in January.

Chevening Scholarships

It supports one-year master’s courses in the UK for students committed to returning and contributing to their home countries. Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Eligible are recent graduates from Chevening-eligible countries (see website for which countries/territories these are; but they do not include the US or UK). Application deadline typically early November.

CHOP Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP)

CRISSP is a 10-week, full-time internship during which participants train under the direct supervision of a mentor responsible for a lab or research group and learn research design, techniques, and analysis. As part of their research experience, students complete an independent research project and present a poster at the conclusion of the program. Opportunities are available in basic/translational, clinical, and behavioral research teams.
