Marshall and Rhodes Scholarships – Yale Application Timeline

2025-2026 Timeline 

Note: Yale Endorsement Required:

Yale Endorsement not required for citizens of countries included in all other constituencies

Key Dates for Yale Endorsement Process:

  • April 1: Global Rhodes Application for Endorsement Opens (for eligible international students)
  • May 1: Marshall, Rhodes Common Applicaiton for Endorsement Opens (for US and Canadian citizens)
  • June 11: Global Rhodes Application for Endorsement Campus Deadline
  • July 15: Marshall, Rhodes Common Application for Endorsement First Campus Deadline
  • July 31: Marshall, Rhodes Common Application for Endorsement Second Campus Deadline

March

  • March 1 onwards: join our Canvas course to walk through each stage of the Marshall / Rhodes application process, including Yale's endorsement
    • When prompted by the Canvas course, make a Fellowships advising appointment (limit of 3 meetings per person)

April

  • Attend information sessions and workshops – subscribe to our Yale Fellowships Newsletter for current event details
  • Explore graduate degree programs in the UK and Ireland
  • Consult academic mentors about graduate programs
  • Contact your referees (and see our advice about requesting letters of recommendation). Only 3 letters are required for the campus process, but you should start thinking about additional letters needed by September:
    • Marshall: 3 letters – 1 primary / overview, 1 general academic, 1 leadership
    • Rhodes: requirements vary by country; for the US process, 5-8 letters are needed, and at least 4 must be from faculty members who have taught or supervised you

May

  • Join our Marshall / Rhodes Group Advising Series, with weekly online workshops on choosing recommenders, selecting graduate courses, drafting a fellowships resume, and telling your story

  • May 1 onwards: review Yale's endorsement application via the Yale Student Grants Database
    • National applications will be available by early July on the Marshall and Rhodes websites
  • May 31: DEADLINE to enroll in our Canvas course and to register for Group Advising 
    • You must sign up by this date to be eligible for Office of Fellowships advising related to Marshall / Rhodes applications

Note: Global Rhodes Timeline 

The Global Scholarships allow eligible candidates from the rest of the world (i.e. not connected to any other Rhodes Scholarships Constituency) to apply for a Scholarship.

  • Late June: endorsement decisions shared with Global Rhodes candidates 
  • July: endorsed Global Rhodes candidates should polish application materials and request additional letters of recommendation
  • July 31, 2025: submit application directly to the external Global Rhodes portal

July

  • July 8: last day for Office of Fellowships advising related to Marshall / Rhodes applications
  • July 15, 1 pm: FIRST CAMPUS DEADLINE
  • July 31, 1 pm: SECOND CAMPUS DEADLINE
    • By this second deadline, you must do the following:
      • Submit your complete application
      • Ensure that your recommendations have been submitted

AUGUST

  •     Week of August 11: Shortlisted candidates for Yale's endorsement notified
  •     Week of August 18: Zoom interviews for shortlisted candidates take place
  •     Week of August 25: Endorsement decisions sent to all candidates

2025-2026 Timeline For Endorsed Candidates 

September

  • Contact your referees to request additional letters of recommendation, to be submitted directly to the Marshall and Rhodes application portals
  • Polish your application materials, with help from your professors, college dean, college writing tutor, and Poorvu Center writing partners
  • September 9th, 2025: Deadline to submit your Marshall application
  • September 23, 2025: Deadline to submit your Canadian Rhodes application

Join Applying for Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships, a Canvas course that will walk you through the entire application and endorsement process.

We also encourage you to register for our Marshall / Rhodes Group Advising Series in May for weekly online advising workshops on choosing recommenders, selecting graduate courses, and creating strong application materials.
