Domestic Summer Internships: Students take advantage of new program

The Domestic Summer Award, a new fellowship established last November, is supporting close to 200 Yale undergrads in unpaid internships this summer. The program gives $4,000 stipends to undergrads on financial aid working in unpaid summer internships with a government entity, an arts apprenticeship, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, or a non-governmental organization.

Beinecke, Boren, and Udall: Three Yale juniors win prestigious scholarships for study and research

Beinecke Scholarships support graduate education in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Boren Scholarships are a National Security Education Program initiative, and fund  U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in global regions critical to U.S. interests. Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least a year after graduating. Udall Scholarships fund study of the environment, Native Americans, and Alaska Natives in fields related to health care and tribal public policy.

Soros Fellowships for New Americans: Eight Yale affiliates honored

Soros Fellows are selected for their potential to significantly contribute to their academic fields or United States society, culture, or their academic fields. The Soros Fellows of 2018 are all children of immigrants, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, green card holders, or naturalized citizens. Soros Fellows are awarded up to $90,000 for their graduate program of choice.

Truman Scholar: Yale junior interested in policymaking is chosen

The Truman Scholarship is one of the most distinguished national scholarships in the United States, and its mission is to choose and support the next group of leaders in public service. Truman Scholars are awarded $30,000 for graduate school and a chance to take part in profession development programming to prepare for public service leadership careers.

NSF-GRF and NASA Space Technology: Emily Kuhn awarded both fellowships

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship works to support graduate research training of early-career scientists and engineers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). NSF GRF gives financial support for three years. The NASA Fellowship's mission is to sponsor US and international graduate students with potential to help NASA create new space technology. NASA Awards take the form of training grants to pursue master and doctoral degrees.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars: Five Yalies chosen for Stanford scholarship

Five current and former Yale students have been selected for the inaugural class of Stanford’s highly selective Knight-Hennessy Scholars program “aims to prepare a new generation of leaders with the deep academic foundation and broad skill set needed to develop creative solutions for the world’s most complex challenges.”

Gates Cambridge Scholars: Four Yalies to study in United Kingdom

Exceptional applicants from outside of the United Kingdom are granted scholarships to undertake a full-time postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. Scholars are selected for their dedication to improving others' lives, intellectual talents, leadership skills, and having qualifications and goals that make them "good fits" for the postgraduate program they are applying to.

Marshall Scholarships: Three Yale students awarded for study in Britain

The Marshall Scholarships are funded by the British government, and were created in 1953 as a British gesture of thanks for U.S. aid given after World War II. Marshall scholarships allow American students who exhibit academic excellence and leadership to study for two or three years at any British university.

Schwarzman Scholars: Seven Yalies to study in Beijing

Schwarzmann Scholars pursue master's degrees at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Along with a core curriculum, students focus on one of three academic disciplines: public policy, economics and business, or international studies. Scholars have a year of cultural immersion and will attend lectures, travel, and develop a better understanding of China. Expenses for each scholar are fully funded by the Schwarzman Scholar program.

Rhodes Scholarships are awarded to two Yalies

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest, most widely known award for international studies. It funds all expenses for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. Recipients are chosen for their academic abilities, ambition for impact, "great personal energy," and capacity to acheive their goals. Awardees are also dedicated to the well-being of others, making a difference for the better in the world, and are aware of inequality.

Yale to offer new fellowships

The Robert C. Bates Postgraduate Fellowship and Yale Glee Club Service Through Music Fellowship were created by the Center for International and Professional Experience (CIPE) in 2017. The Bates Fellowship allows post-graduates to build on their Yale studies and work for three months to a year on an internship, creative projects, or research that "contributes to society" outside of the United States. The Service Through Music Fellowship funds students to organize public service through music, one example being to set up a youth chorus in an economically disadvantaged area.
