Eight Yale seniors awarded fellowships to study at Oxford and Cambridge

Eight graduating Yalies have been awarded fellowships or scholarships to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities. These seniors will be pursuing postgraduate degrees in topics ranging from public health to musicology.

Alumnus wins Mortimer Hays-Brandeis Traveling Fellowship

Brian Orozco ’18 has been awarded one of three prestigious Mortimer Hays-Brandeis Traveling Fellowships. The fellowship provides $19,000 to support students in the visual and fine arts — including art history, conservation, studio art, and photography — for travel and living expenses outside the United States.

Junior wins Beinecke Scholarship for doctoral work

Benjamin Waldman ’20 of Branford College has been awarded a Beinecke Scholarship to support his pursuit of a Ph.D. in political science or history. He is one of only 18 college juniors nationwide to win this competitive award this year.

Two undergraduates will study language abroad with Boren Scholarships

Two Yale sophomores have been awarded Boren Scholarships to pursue language study abroad during the 2019-20 academic year. Jordan Farenhem (MY '21) will be studying Bahasa Indonesia with the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative, and Anne Northrup (JE '21) will study Russian in Georgia.

Seven Yalies win Soros Fellowship

Seven Yalies — four current students and three Yale College graduates — won The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, a grant that funds graduate studies for immigrants and the children of first-generation immigrants.

Three more Yale affiliates named Gates Cambridge Fellows

Ololade Aliyu, a current master’s degree candidate in African studies at Yale, and alumni Onon Bayasglan ’13 M.E.M. and Etienne Mashuli ’15 M.A., have won Gates Cambridge Scholarships for study at the University of Cambridge. The three, who were chosen in the international round of selection, join two U.S. Gates Cambridge Scholars announced earlier: Yale senior Fernando Rojas and alumnus Dhruv Nandamudi ’18. The five Yale affiliates are among the 90 scholars who make up the Gates Cambridge Class of 2019.

Junior Christina Pao selected as a Truman Scholar

Yale junior Christina Pao has been named one of 62 Truman Scholars for 2019. The winners were announced by former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation.

Four Yale graduates — Seth Kolker ’15, Anthony Kayruz ’17, Charles Stone ’14 and Zachary Young ’17 — are among the second cohort of the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, the largest graduate scholarship program in the world.

Four Yale alumni are among 68 students from around the world who have been selected 2019 Knight-Hennessy Scholars. They are Seth Kolker ’15, Anthony Kayruz '17, Charles Stone ’14, and Zachary Young ’17.  Scholars receive full funding for graduate study at Stanford University.
