Yale College Summer Fellowships

October - December

  • Attend CIPE events, such as the Summer Opportunities Fair to inform yourself about your summer options.
  • Have conversations with faculty mentors and other relevant University staff about summer plans. The earlier, the better.
  • Begin making any necessary contacts to secure internships, affiliations with NGOs, etc.
  • Explore the fellowships website for project planning advice, and application instructions.
  • Explore the Student Grants Database for fellowship deadlines and eligibility requirements.

October - February

  • Attend information sessions hosted by Fellowship Programs. Attend earlier in the year to avoid missing out on opportunities and to avoid losing preparation time in advance of deadlines.
  • Attend proposal writing workshops hosted by Fellowship Programs.
  • Arrange an individual advising appointment at Fellowship Programs. Phone and Skype appointments are available for students off-campus and for select times during breaks.

January

  • Be sure you have asked for letters of recommendation for Yale College Summer Fellowships.  As a courtesy, you should ask faculty mentors for letters no later than three weeks in advance of the deadline.

February - March

  • Inform yourself about, and begin, if appropriate, the IRB review process for research involving human subjects. See the Human Research Protection Program website and click on “Student Projects” for more information.)
  • Submit your fellowships application well in advance of the summer fellowship deadlines. CIPE fellowship deadlines are often in early February. Check the Student Grants Database for exact dates and times.

March - April

  • Interviews for some fellowship competitions take place. Not all committees choose to conduct interviews as part of the selection process.

April

  • Notification of fellowship status is given in mid-April.

April - May

  • Checks are distributed. All winners must sign award agreements and show proof of IRB approval or exemption, if applicable, before receiving award monies.
  • Mandatory pre-departure sessions for all winners take place.

Yale College Year-long Fellowships

July - August

September - October

  • Have conversations with faculty mentors and other relevant University staff about post-graduate plans. The earlier, the better!
  • Begin making any necessary contacts to secure internships, affiliations with NGOs, etc.

October - December

  • Attend information sessions and proposal writing workshops hosted by Fellowship Programs.
  • Arrange an individual advising appointment with a Fellowships Adviser. 
  • Draft personal essays and proposals, share with the Writing Center or advisers for feedback

December

  • Ask for letters of recommendation for Yale College Year-long Fellowships.  As a courtesy, you should ask faculty mentors for letters no later than three weeks in advance of the deadline. Also ask for letters of affiliation, language evaluations, etc.
  • Conduct budget research.
  • Start your online application in the Student Grants Database.

January - February

  • Begin the IRB approval process for research involving human subjects. See the Human Research Protection Program website and click on “Student Projects” for more information.

  • Year-long Fellowships deadline through Fellowships Programs. See the Student Grants Database for CIPE deadlines and others across campus. SUBMIT EARLY.

February - April
